Weekend Round-Up: June 10-16

This week in EILE Magazine was quite important for us, as it marked the completion of what we in EILE HQ called ‘Phase II’. This meant that the digital issues, podcasts and new eile.ie layout were all launched, establishing EILE as a true multimedia platform for the LGBT community. See what else we got up to with our Weekend Round-Up:

Although we experienced some online downtime as we switched our servers over to the new eile.ie layout, we ran a competition for two pairs of tickets to see Angels in America in Dublin. Congrats to Gary Lynch and Meg Grehan who won the tickets!

The HSE released worrying figures about the amount of new HIV infections in Ireland recently, and so Dr. Shay Keating wrote to EILE Magazine about PEP treatment for those who think they may have been recently infected with the virus. In other news, Glee star Jane Lynch announced that she is to divorce her wife of three years, Lara Embry.

Scott De Buitléir takes a look at recent events in Russia that are worrying to the LGBT community, both in Russia and internationally.

This week’s podcast is released, where Scott and Jenny discuss Russia’s LGBT worries and also the meaning of Pride. Meanwhile, ABSOLUT Vodka Ireland release a video which celebrates thirty years of Dublin Pride, and Frances Winston reviews Man of Steel ahead of its release across Ireland.

Inspired by the prestigious London Collections: Men, Lewis Robert Cameron writes about the rise of menswear after his own successful Man Time SS13 event in Belfast last week. In other good news, Northern Ireland sees its first openly gay mayor elected to North Down, while in the States, polls show that the majority of Americans now support marriage equality.

New guidelines on the treatment of transgender people are introduced in both the United States and Australia, and gay superstar Cheyenne Jackson releases his new single, Don’t Look At Me. Also, Frances Winston reviews The Last Exorcism II, but isn’t too impressed.

Don’t forget that our new eile.ie layout means that you can now look back over past articles by browsing by category or month published!
