Director: Peter Landesman – Starring: Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Zac Efron, Tom Welling
For those of you wondering what you’d like to see at the cinema today, here’s the trailer to Parkland, the latest in a long line of films about the assassination, fifty years ago this year, of US President John F. Kennedy, in 1963. It is based on the book Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Vincent Bugliosi.
Parkland is the hospital where Kennedy was brought directly after the shooting, and a lot of attention is placed on the reactions of staff as they tried to save Kennedy’s life. Oswald was brought to the same hospital later, and the staff reactions were less enthusiastic, according to the film. You don’t get to focus on the ‘grassy knoll’, or the many conspiracy theories.
This film is also different from its predecessors in that it portrays members of the Oswald family, and how the event affected their lives. Whether you’ve seen all of the Kennedy films before, or are new to this historical and much-hyped assassination, this film is well worth watching.
