The 9th International Gay Games opening ceremonies are being held today, Saturday, 9th August, in Ohio. The games this year are being hosted by Cleveland and Akron, and continue until 16th of this month.
According to the LGBT Centre of Greater Cleveland, who are lead community partners for the event:
The Games are open to all adults – regardless of sexual orientation or athletic ability. With more than 35 sports and 2 cultural events, there’s something for everybody. Remember – you don’t have to be gay, you don’t have to be good, you just have to be over 18.
Gay Games 9 is expected to bring 10,000 participants from all over the world who will compete in more than 35 sports and culture events during this week-long festival. The motto of the Federation of Gay Games and the Gay Games movement is: “Participation, Inclusion, and Personal Best”. These words guide the actions of an organization and the way our hosts execute the quadrennial Gay Games.
The entrants have come from far and wide to include 48 states and 51 countries to compete in more than 35 events, which range from basketball and track and field to rodeo.
