In two separate incidents yesterday, two gay men have been stoned to death in Syria by ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) in what are believed to be the first executions for alleged homosexuality by the militant group.
One victim was killed in Mayadeen near the Iraq border, and was 20 years-old. ISIS claimed to have video evidence on his mobile phone, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The second man was an 18 year-old, whom ISIS also claimed was gay. He was killed in Deir Ezzor (Deir ez-Zor) city, also by stoning.
According to Alarabiya.net, activists took to social media after the executions, saying that alleged homosexuality was used as a pretext to execute the men, who were both opposed to ISIS.
