The Madras High Court has ordered that transgender woman, K Prithika Yashini, be appointed as Sub Inspector of Police, as she deserves the appointment.
The Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) had initially rejected her application, and so Yashini brought her case to the High Court.
The judges also ordered that by the time the next recruitment drive comes round, the TNUSRB were to include transgenders as a ‘third category’.
The court also said yesterday that it would be difficult for either of the other two genders to understand the discrimination a transperson goes through. Yashini had suffered by having to leave her house because she was transgender, and it was under these circumstances that she was trying to eke out a living.
