NI: Popular – Say You’ll Remember Me, 14 -16 January at the MAC

Say You'll Remember MeAuthor and playwright, Gareth Russell, is a frequent contributor to EILE Magazine, and now has a new play running at the MAC theatre in Belfast, called ‘Say You’ll Remember Me’, 14-16 January.

Based on the ‘Popular’ series of novels by Belfast writer and historian Gareth Russell, ‘Say You’ll Remember Me’ is set in a Malone Road grammar school.

Upper Sixth is drawing to an end, and with it seven years of debauchery, hilarity, scheming, and rugby schools’ cup finals are saying their last goodbyes.

A group of friends – scheming Meredith, rugger bugger Peter, party girl Imogen, and fresh out-of-the-closet Cameron – prepare for life after high school as they negotiate parent-teacher evenings, pesky ID-checking bouncers, Oxbridge interviews and try to learn their tequila limits, all while remaining #blessed.

Popular-Say-youll-remember-me_3“Spoilt debutantes, popping into Victoria Square shopping centre for a spot of retail therapy, getting manicures, wearing Ralph Lauren, and sipping martinis at high-society functions? Not images you commonly associate with Belfast, but the setting proved ideal… The writer excels at capturing the ability of teenagers to coin expressions and venomous put-downs.…” – The Sunday Times
