A transgender person has been appointed to be primary LGBT liaison at the White House by President Obama.
Raffi Freedman-Gurspan, a Jewish native of Honduras, is the first transgender person to be appointed to the role.
The National Centre for Transgender Equality wrote on their facebook page:
“Congratulations to NCTE’s former Racial & Economic Justice Policy Advisor, Raffi Freedman-Gurspan on her exciting appointment as White House LGBT Liaison! Raffi made history last year as the first openly trans White House staffer, and is making history again as the first trans person to serve in this role. Please join us in congratulating Raffi! ”
Executive director of NCTE, Mara Keisling, who was also Raffi’s former employer, felt that Raffi was the perfect person for the job:
“President Obama has said he wants his administration to look like America, and they have moved to include trans Americans. Raffi’s skills and personality make her the exact right person for this important job”.
