US: Coach is fired for suspending two gay players

Prairie_View_A&M_University_sealIn Texas, Prairie View & AM University announced on Wednesday last that it had fired the women’s basketball team’s head coach.

The university fired Dawn Brown, after she suspended two gay team members who were dating each other.

The university, founded in 1876, is a historically black university, and guarantees equality in education under Title IX. It said that Ms Brown’s actions violated that guarantee.

However, Ms Brown says that she has a policy in place which forbids players having a non-professional relationship while a member of the team, and that the university had approved that policy.
