Dublin Pride Day 2016 was one to go down in the annals of Dublin Pride as the best, happiest, most chilled of all Dublin Pride Days so far. Everyone was in a relaxed, happy mood, which was palpable, enjoying the entertainment at Merrion Square Park, and generally being glad to be there with friends, family and supporters (photos below).
It was different to last year, when, although everyone was in a great mood, the tensions and exhaustion of campaigning for a YES vote in the referendum had taken their toll, and there seemed to be still some nervousness about PDAs and being ‘out’ in public.
Not so this year, where the colourful clothes, make-up and hair of the masses reflected the Pride inside, in the relaxed ambience of Merrion Square Park, and drag-queens were out in abundance to entertain by their very presence. Great performances onstage also, with amazing music from ELM, Paul Ryder and Patrick James among others, hosted by Panti et al. After a Pride parade that saw larger numbers than ever march, led out by Grand Marshal, Max Krzyzanowski of LGBT Noise, the crowd deserved to sit down and chill out.
It was a Very Happy Dublin Pride Day indeed!
