Yesterday Netflix released a featurette for Marco Polo Season 2 showcasing the themes, returning cast, new characters and high quality action that viewers can expect from the upcoming series. The behind the scenes featurette includes interviews with creator and executive producer John Fusco as well as cast members Lorenzo Richelmy, Gabriel Byrne, Benedict Wong, Remy Hii, Tom Wu and Michelle Yeoh.
Gabriel Byrne will star as Pope Gregory X in Marco Polo Season 2. Commenting on the role, Gabriel Byrne said “I’ve always been kind of fascinated by Papal history, and the Janiston play, the Pope doesn’t come up everyday. I mean I’ve played the devil, played a priest but you know to play the Pope is an interesting segway. So I was very happy to be part of it. And It’s a huge production, a gigantic crew, so the idea of joining a huge enterprise like this, was interesting”
In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, Marco Polo is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th Century China, and the dark and tempestuous battle for the expanding Mongol empire.
All 10 episodes of Marco Polo Season 2 are available to stream on Netflix from this Friday, 1 July 2016.
