On Saturday 8th July 2017, Brighton enjoyed the third Diversity Games organised by BLAGSS (Brighton’s LGBT Sports Society). This year they held a Golf Tournament and a Same Sex Dance Championship.
The golf competition was well attended by LGBT golfers from Brighton, London, Dorset, and Cardiff. Helen Woodcock-Downey, the organiser, said:
“This has been the best attended and most closely fought golf competition in the history of the Diversity Games”.
The competition was played at single Stableford for two categories of competition: Pride Shield, for those with a Congu Handicap, and the Rainbow Challenge, for those with a Society Handicap.
This year, there was a men’s and a women’s competition for the Rainbow Challenge. Helen Woodcock-Downey says she is looking forward to next year, and hoping that more men will join in and compete for the Men’s Pride Shield.
The day was hosted by MyTime Active at Hollingbury Park Golf Course – a course that saw fame as a qualifier for the Open, with the most amazing views of the UK’s south coast. Additional fun competitions included nearest the pin, and the longest drive.
Winners of the Competitions:
· Val Buckland – Rainbow Challenge Women
· Jeff Wilson – Rainbow Challenge Men
· Lorraine Everard – Pride Shield.
BLAGSS hosts regular golfing competitions for its members.
All are welcome to join – see www.blagss.org for details.
