This morning on our EILE music slot, we are delighted to feature Australian-born, UK-based, singer-songwriter-guitarist, The Magic Lantern (aka Jamie Doe) who has recently released an amazing video for his beautiful track, Lydia, featuring legendary drag-queen and activist, Lavinia Co-op.
Lydia is the second single taken from his upcoming album, To The Islands, and is reminiscent of the personal, oblique, narrative songs of Elliot Smith, and hushed intimacy of Sufjan Stevens. The track, recorded in one take, opens with exquisite finger-picking from Jamie, then Jamie’s atmospheric lead vocal takes centre stage. Perfection!
Hackney-born drag artist, Lavinia Co-op, who trained as a dancer, was part of the historic UK drag-troupe, Bloolips, and was actively involved in the Gay Liberation Front in the UK.
For those readers in the UK, Jamie will be playing tonight at The Harrison, 28 Harrison Street (389.64 mi) London, United Kingdom WC1H 8JF, at 7.30pm.
The above is the official music video for the single, Lydia, by The Magic Lantern, which was released on 23 March 2018, on Hectic Eclectic Records.
