Dublin Fringe Festival: Liz Roche Company presents NÄHER… CLOSER, NEARER, SOONER

Liz Roche Company presents

NÄHER… CLOSER, NEARER, SOONER

at Dublin Fringe Festival 2018

Goethe-Institut, Dublin, 20 – 23 August, 2018

Liz Roche Company takes Dublin Fringe audiences on an epic dance journey through the impressive spaces of a Dublin Georgian House and connecting buildings on Merrion Square, this September.

Liz Roche Company teams up with Goethe-Institut Irland to create a magnificent new dance piece , Näher….closer, nearer, sooner, that showcases in two newly refurbished Goethe-Institut buildings, situated on one of Dublin’s grandest Georgian addresses, Merrion Square.

Performed by fifteen dancers, and written and developed by prolific Irish actor and playwright, Shane O’Reilly, audiences are taken on a thrilling dance odyssey through one of the Dublin’s most exquisite postal addresses. The show brings the audience into experiential encounters, emotions and movements, in this latest work by choreographer, Liz Roche, who in 2018 has staged many exemplary new works in stunning locations.

Within these new and old walls at Goethe Institut Irland are
layers of stories and memories. This not-to-be-missed dance encounter brings up all of the emotions and movements that bring us closer, encouraging us to share
in an intimate living room play, and to live the best moment of our lives. Liz Roche and her company, along with theatre maker and playwright Shane O’Reilly, have created this site-specific dance piece, to mark the opening of the newly refurbished Goethe-Institut.

“Wir sind wieder zu Hause. Unser Flügel wurde gestimmt und unsere Bibliothek ist voll mit unseren Lieblingsbüchern. Komm und lass dich verzaubern.

(We are at home again. Our grand piano was tuned and our library is full of our favorite books. Come and be enchanted”).

Collaborating with Berlin-based sound designer, Roy Carroll, and costume designer, Catherine Fay, working with performers that include Finola Cronin, Henry Montes, Anne-Laure Dogot and Kevin Coquelard, alongside a secondary cast of young dancers and actors from different youth groups, including Dublin Youth Dance Company.
Liz Roche and her company will explore the concept of ‘the best moment in your life’.  The idea of longing for and yearning for a period in one’s past that was golden, removed from the normal, everyday life.
In this new work, Liz Roche will marry the idea with the old building at Merrion Square, making it a space within which the audience will be invited to become an intimate part of one of those times – a time the performers will enjoy and be lost within – with little or no worry about such things as time, or clothes, and not caring when dinner is. These are people who are only with each other and us, lost in this sequence of moments, that are on the cusp of becoming memories.
