The Plays Inside – Irish LGBTQ+ plays from a time of isolation

The holidays are right around the corner, and the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival (IDGTF) have the perfect gift for theatre lovers!

The Plays Inside – 22 new LGBTQ+ themed dramatic works, from 22 playwrights across the nation. IDGTF pride themselves on bringing new works from ‘page to stage’, but unfortunately, this year the Covid-19 pandemic dimmed the lights of the 17th International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival.

However, they proudly publish this diverse range of new Irish LGBTQ+ comedy and drama. Featuring 22 plays from the 17th Festival, and their LGBTQ+ Theatre Bursary initiative – 22 writers from ‘Derry to Kerry’, and from the Irish LGBTQ+ diaspora, share a modern take on isolation and relationships, in their new works for gay theatre.

Curated by Festival founder and Artistic Director, Brian Merriman, this compendium will keep you well entertained, until this unique theatre festival returns to Dublin stages, on the first Monday in May annually, for two weeks of new and exciting live LGBTQ+ theatre.
You can purchase the book on their website here (€15 plus €5 postage and packaging).
The call for submissions for the 18th International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival is now closed. The IDGTF would like to thank you all for sending in your plays! Their Artistic Director, Brian Merriman, now has the joyful task of reading all the submitted works, and making a selection for next year’s programme. Best of luck to all!
